The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of soft tissue and joints of the body for the treatment and prevention of dysfunction, injury, pain and physical disorders. Registered Massage Therapists undergo extensive training in the treatment and prevention of injury, pain and physical disorders through the manual manipulation of structures of the body such as ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, muscles, blood vessels, organs and other soft tissues.
The origins of modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700s with the creation of Swedish massage, which was the first organized approach to therapeutic massage rooted in physiology. Today, Massage Therapists utilize their understanding of anatomy and physiology to blend traditional Swedish methods with contemporary Massage Therapy techniques, alongside exercise and other treatments, to effectively help their clients.
During your initial visit, your registered massage therapist will review your health history and conduct a physical assessment, which includes testing and evaluating your range of motion. Your therapist will inquire about your treatment goals and provide you with the chance to ask any questions you may have. Consent for the treatment will be requested at this stage, but you have the right to ask the RMT to adjust or discontinue the treatment at any point. Throughout the massage, your therapist will check in with you multiple times to ensure your comfort with the pressure being applied. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and we welcome your feedback to ensure we deliver the best possible care.
